TONY AWARD-WINNER JOINS ICFW WEBCAST

Karen Olivo adds voice to exceptional group of panelists for Jan. 14 event

5 January 2021

INDIANAPOLIS – ICFW is known for bringing in big names. Rachel Ray, Dr. Tererai Trent, Gretchen Carlson, Retta–the list goes on and on. While you usually see such impressive figures at our annual conference, this month's UNLIMITED webcast brings them right into your living room.

Karen Olivo, Tony Award-winner for her electric Anita in the 2009 revival of West Side Story on Broadway, currently stars in Moulin Rouge! The Musical (and will again don her sequins when Broadway reopens in September). Her long career in the theatre is littered with big hits including In the Heights, the Tony Award-winning musical by Hamilton creator Lin Manuel Miranda, and the Chicago run of Hamilton itself. Olivo is also known for recurring roles on television in shows like

Harry's Law with Kathy Bates, The Good Wife with Julianna Margulies, and Law & Order: SVU

Don't think Indy can't keep up with the likes of Karen Olivo. Our panel boosts local heavy hitters with equally long résumés. Olivo joins Arts Council of Indianapolis President Julie Goodman, nationally-recognized spoken word artist Manon Voice, Dance Kaleidoscope dancer and choreographer Mariel Greenlee, and Off-Broadway and regional playwright Jennifer Blackmer for a discussion about the small business nature of the arts. Artists in any discipline serve as their own best advocate to get their work out and in the world. These experts will share their stories of how they get there and what you can do to make the most of your career.

Blackmer will moderate the hour-long discussion, inviting conversation on all areas of art. Get your questions ready for an interactive Q&A during the panel. The chat feature during the webcast allows you to connect with other attendees and our panelists to let your voice be heard.

The webcast will be broadcast live on Thursday, January 14, at 6:00pm EST. Register for a link to join here, and mark your calendars to start your year off right!

ICFW offers free virtual event during COVID-19

8 December 2020

INDIANAPOLIS – Four women in a male-driven field have a lot to say about the female recession caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Namely: this cannot stand.

Deborah Daniels, Partner at Krieg DeVault and former U.S. Assistant Attorney General; Felecia Roseburgh, Diversity & Inclusion Program Manager at Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis; and Paula Moan, Market President at Stock Yards Bank and Trust join moderator Joyce Rogers, Interim Vice

President of the Indiana University Foundation for this interactive discussion. Free to the public, the event is intended to cast a light on this phenomenon and help women find their way back to the workplace at the same levels they left.

Why are women–particularly Black and Latina women–more likely to lose their jobs during times of crisis? Even in 2020, women still bear the brunt of family care and management. Women are also more likely to be in service positions; the pandemic has hit the service industry particularly hard with layoffs, pay reductions, and full closures to many restaurants and hotels in particular. The panel will offer further information about the deep effects of this female recession and advice for what women can do to get back to work.
