JAMEELA JAMILA JOINS KEYNOTE SPEAKERS for '21
Actress, Performer, and Activist will serve as luncheon keynote

12 April 2021
INDIANAPOLIS – Actor, writer, host and activist Jameela Jamil will serve as the luncheon keynote speaker during the 10th annual Indiana Conference for Women (ICFW) on Wednesday, Nov. 3. Morning and closing keynote speakers for the conference include Academy Award-nominated and Golden Globe-winning actor, writer and producer, Taraji P. Henson, and business woman, author and internationally famous fashion designer, Betsey Johnson.
“Jameela’s passion and advocacy for women finding their true value is so imperative to creating strong ecosystems for women,” said Deborah Collins Stephens, co-founder of ICFW with Billie Dragoo-Garcia. “She uses her platform to start important conversations and we look forward to the conversation she’ll bring to our audience.”

In 2009, an English Teacher at the time, Jameela was chosen to host the British breakfast TV program “Freshly Squeezed,” where she quickly became a fan favorite. In 2016, Jamil made her move to United States television where she was
cast as Tahani on the Golden Globe-nominated series “The Good Place,” opposite Ted Danson and Kristen Bell. Since 2019, Jamil has hosted the TBS game show “The Misery Index.” She is also the voice of the character Auntie Pushpa in the Disney series “Mira, Royal Detective,” which features an all-Indian cast, including Freida Pinto and Kal Penn. Additionally, she is one of the judges on HBO Max’s competition show “Legendary.”
During her presentation, Jameela will have a conversation focused on freedom, shame and the power of identity, similar to the discussions she has on her movement and activism platform, “I Weigh.” What started as an idea and an Instagram page has become a platform and community of changemakers who come together to share ideas, experiences and ultimately mobilize activism. Through original content, editorial and podcasts, the platform explores social issues that stem from mental health to climate change to the representation of marginalized groups.
In April 2020, Jameela launched the “I Weigh with Jameela Jamil” podcast in which she speaks to different thought-leaders, performers, activists, influencers and friends about how they are working through their past shames to find where their value truly lies. The podcast has featured Gloria Steinem, Reese Witherspoon, Demi Lovato, Billy Porter, Tarana Burke, Ashley Ford and Deshaun Wesley. With hilarious and vulnerable conversations, “I Weigh with Jameela Jamil” amplifies and empowers diverse voices in an accessible way to celebrate progress, not perfection.
The Indiana Conference for Women will be held at the Indiana Convention Center. During the last nine years, the one-day Conference has featured speakers including Arianna Huffington, Martha Stewart, Dr. Tererai Trent, Erin Brockovich and more. Tickets are $350 each and tables for 10 people are available online. The promo code “JJ25” provides $25 off the purchase of an individual conference ticket from Monday, April 12 - Friday, April 16 at checkout.
